Keep vision and generative AI separate

Raspberry Pi documents the original AI HAT+ as a vision-oriented accelerator. Its documentation lists LLM and VLM support for AI HAT+ 2, not this model. Do not assume that a higher TOPS number makes a board a general-purpose language-model machine.

Pick the exact variant

The 13 TOPS and 26 TOPS boards use different accelerator variants. Record the specific board in a comparison and verify the intended model’s compilation and runtime requirements.

Test the whole camera path

A useful vision review includes capture, preprocessing, inference, and output. Accelerator-only throughput cannot describe the full delay a robot or camera application experiences.

Questions to settle before you buy

  • Are you comparing the 13 or 26 TOPS variant?
  • Does your camera and model pipeline use the supported stack?
  • What is the complete capture-to-result latency?
